Dinner dates are all the rage but sometimes they get monotonous. Switch your routine up by having some dessert. Eat a full dinner at home and then go out to get the sweets or live a little and do it in reverse! However you choose to get your fill, make sure you check out one of our five favorite dessert places in New York City.
Magnolia Bakery first opened in New York City’s West Village in 1996 and has since expanded to other locations in the city. Their wide assortments of treats, ranging from cakes to cupcakes to pies and more, quickly picked up steam, which made Magnolia one of the most in-demand bakeries in the Big Apple. The exterior of Magnolia’s flagship location has been featured on Saturday Night Live, Sex and the Cityand more. People flock from all over the world to get a taste of their pastries.
Molly’s was named in honor of the owner’s third grade teacher, who would bake cupcakes for her class whenever one of her students had a birthday. That same TLC was transferred to Molly’s, which has an authentic, grandma’s kitchen feel. It’s not uncommon to hear Motown classics and other R&B and soul hits while lounging and noshing on treats like strawberry shortcake, chocolate cupcakes and more. A portion of the proceeds from Molly’s goes toward the betterment of community schools.
The only thing better than eating a cupcake, is eating several miniature cupcakes. Melissa’s cupcakes come in flavors like red velet, tie dye, s’more, peanut butter and jelly and more. Cupcakes can also be shipped nationally for those who get hooked.
At the Doughnut Plant, you’ll indulge in quirky flavors like creme brulee or tres leches doughnuts, carrot cake and more, but make sure you get there early. This place cooks freshly made doughnuts all day until they sell out, which happens fast, especially in warmer months as the line often goes out the door and wraps around the block.
Milk Bar is home to some of the most addictive confections in the country. Dine on blueberry and cream cookies, “crack” pie, assorted cakes and cereal milkshakes—yep, that’s milk that has been flavored by some of your favorite cereals and then turned into a milkshake. Not for the diet-conscious!
