Last week I gave you five things men should never say to women. This week I’m here to flip it and tell you five things men should say to women — particularly when you’ve been in a relationship for some time. If you’re saying these things, you’re probably winning. If not, you might be coming off the bench.
You’re Pretty
Men are pretty good at this in the beginning … because we’re trying to win. But once we’ve won for some time, we often make the assumption women know how we feel about their looks. Or, we’re dating someone that exudes so much confidence that we think our words will be overflow in their glass of self esteem. She should be hearing these words from you more than when she gets dressed up, solicits your opinion or you’re in the midst of throwing. Besides, how beautiful can someone be in the dark unless homie is blind.
Tell her she’s pretty even in her most unsavory moment. It doesn’t matter if she woke up, her head-wrap fell off and her hair has her looking like Medusa Fierce. Tell her those are the prettiest snakes you ever seen … then freeze.
I’m All Ears (or some variation thereof)
There’s listening with your eyes and then there’s listening with your ears. She probably already assumes you’re going to retain no more than 15 percent of what she says. But if you express that you’re interested in listening and more importantly understanding than trying to solve a problem she may not want the solution to, you may win yourself dinner and a mouth hug.
I’m Sorry For Making You Feel That Way
I’m sorry for making you feel that way will lead to explosive diarrhea of the mouth. You don’t want that shit in your face. This statement basically says, “Hey, you on your own now girl.” That’s no bueno with old cheese. “I’m sorry for making you feel that way” tells her that you’re apologetic about making her upset or uncomfortable. The basic follow up:
What Can I Do To Make You Feel Better?
Small change that can have big results. You see that picture to the left? You want her there, fam. That is your goal in life. Her happiness before your own. You’ll actually be happier that way.
I’m So, I’m So, I’m So, I’m So, Proud Of You
Drake was onto something. (You’ll probably never see me write that again, but he was.) One of the best compliments and phrases of encouragement you can offer is to tell her you’re proud of her. You can’t just say this anytime though, like if she just came out the bathroom. She’s not potty training. But if she just got an interview after submitting 30 resumes, got your daughter to Grand Supreme on Toddlers & Tiarasor finally figured out how to cook mac-n-cheese without burning the top, tell her you’re proud of her. Be witness to the perseverance. It’ll give her the warm and fuzzies that you’ll subsequently feel later in a different way before bed.
